Sweet Midnight

My scheduled day off this week wasn't until Thursday, but my mom e-mailed me yesterday to let me know that we needed to put our black lab, Midnight, to sleep. :( She was really old, I got her when I was a freshman in high school, I believe... maybe even when I was in 8th grade. She was in a lot of pain, moaning and such, so it was definitely time. I traded days off this week so I could be off today to go with mom to take her. It was SO hard! :( Poor, sweet Midnight! :(

The kids took it pretty well. Aleah was with us when we took her and as we were driving off, she waved and said, "Bye Night Night!" We didn't tell the kids until we got back to my mom's house from picking them up from school. Marissa was in mom's kitchen and picked up Midnight's dog biscuit and asked if she could take it to her. We told her she wasn't here anymore and she said, "Well where's she at? In Heaven?" We told her yes and she said, "Awww, poor old Midnight." Then she ran into tell Hunter. "Midnight died!" she yelled. Hunter smiled, shook his head, and said, "Nuh uh." My sweet, sweet Hunter. He never wants to believe anything bad. He came in and asked us if it was true and we told him yes, of course. He lost it. It broke my heart. He cried and cried. Since he was so upset, I decided to take him to the movies. Mom kept the girls for me and Hunter and I went to see We Bought a zoo. (Okay seriously, blogger won't let me capitalize that z or it doesn't appear. wtf!) It was SO good! We both loved it!! I definitely recommend it!! :)

Here's my pictures for today...
-Aleah this morning still asleep in my bed after I had got up, she's the best cuddle buddy!
-Hunter riding on a motorcycle arcade game at the theater.

  2. I had to put my dog of 17 years down a few years ago and it nearly killed me. I will never forget him (he is still on the fridge!) and even got a special ornament for the tree that I love hanging up every year. So sad.

  3. I'm sorry to hear about Midnight. It sounds like she had a long, wonderful life, and was very loved. She is no longer in pain.

I lost three pets this past year, and also my father, and telling my kids was so hard for me. My daughter always seemed to take it well, and my son was really too young to understand, so it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. My daughter is very matter of fact about it too. She will just tell people "Cosmo died".
