Or more like...
My husband was an amazing wrestler in high school (and really should've gone to college and wrestled as well!), and my son is now following in his footsteps. Ivan has a photo album full of newspaper articles from where he was in the papers during high school for his wrestling. He also has a ton of medals on his letterman jacket and trophies (which my son has up in his room).
I didn't have any pictures on the computer of him though, so I googled his name and found this on the Virginia Wrestling Association's page, showing that Ivan had over 100 wins during his high school wrestling career.
Hunter has really had a great time with wrestling so far! I love it when he comes home from practice every week and is just SO excited to tell me all about the new moves he learned! Ivan is also helping coach his team and is also loving it! He's like a little kid again! lol!
A few of Hunter's matches so far
Hunter's coach invited us to go to UVA to watch their wrestling team in their last home meet of the season last night against UNC. They won 21 -9. Their 20th straight home win! Hunter had a great time getting to watch the college boys wrestling. I enjoyed listening to him point out the moves he saw them doing that he knew!
Hunter's coach knew a lot of the UVA wrestlers and after the matches were over, Hunter got to meet them and get their autographs! He was so excited!
Hunter is a Va Teach fan (not sure how that happened in our house full of UVA fans), but after last night, he said that UVA wrestlers are his favorite and he wants to go to college and wrestle there too! Yay! Success! Ha! Now, I'm going to need you to get a scholarship there, okay, Hunter? LOL! :)
I love how we learn to love everything again when seen through our childrens' eyes. I am so glad your Hunter is taking such an interest in something that meant so much to his daddy......yay for Hunter, and Ivan for coaching!
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing the pics! been a lonnngg time since i've seen a wrestling match! :)
ReplyDeleteSo sweet that your husband is helping Hunter's team- I'm sure that means so much to both of them!!! That last part about the scholarship made me laugh :) It's so awesome he has such big ambitions and dreams at such a young age!
ReplyDeleteBoth of my older boys wrestled. I bet it is a nice bond for all of you that your husband was a great wrestler in school!
ReplyDeleteHow awesome that your husband gets to relive one of his favorite sports all over again. My boys are so young still, but I often think of sports they may play and get excited. I can't wait to be that mom. LOL
ReplyDeleteIt's so much fun when kids and parents can do, and have the same interests.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! It's always an experience when your child starts getting involved in something you did as a kid. I was a baton twirler and my oldest is turning into quite the majorette. Better than I ever was. I'm so proud of her.
ReplyDeleteI think it's cute that your son is following in his Daddy's footsteps.
ReplyDeleteDH was in wrestling a little and hated it. His brother got really into it though. I can definitely imagine it must be scary to watch you "baby" do that though!
ReplyDeleteBTW, thanks for linking up at Lovin the Weekend!
I've wondered about it... I would have my heart in my throat. Brave!
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of wrestling but I am with karate.
